Leading government agencies and forward-thinking manufacturers across Australia and New Zealand have proved the Digital Product Passport Management System across construction, infrastructure, and fit out projects — spanning a variety of scales and stages, including in-flight developments and existing assets.
“This platform aligns closely with our policy efforts and strategic state goals. It’s a valuable tool to help achieve targets, support evidence-based policy development, and drive circular economy outcomes in infrastructure projects.”

Similar to a traditional passport, a DPP related to products is a digital file which has a unique identity that’s linked to the product’s original source. Additionally, it captures verifiable and traceable data on a product’s environmental impact as well as detailed data on its component materials and their origins. A DPP also accommodates technical product details, end-of-life information, alignment with standards, and sustainability or recycled content certifications.
DPPs are not static, but rather a continuously updating record that evolves with the product throughout its lifecycle. For example, when the product reaches the customer, maintenance records and end-of-life management information will be added to the passport.
Achieving a circular economy can be challenging without comprehensive data insights because the core principles of circularity—eliminating waste and pollution, circulating products and materials at their highest value, and regenerating nature—rely heavily on understanding the full lifecycle of products and materials.
Without detailed data, it becomes difficult to understand and track what materials a product is made of, where they are sourced from, how it is designed for circularity, how it is used, and how it is managed at the end of its life. This lack of visibility hinders the ability to identify opportunities for reducing waste, optimising resource use, and closing material loops.
